Philadelphia Flyers, A Season to Forget..

A season that started off so great for the Flyers, they signed many talented players and veteran stars and began the season on a high note. That talented team was together for a short period of time and a team that felt so good about the upcoming year began to start feeling no excitement for the year that was. The Flyers are now in a rebuilding mode, sort of.. their Junior squad is becoming one of the best in the league with the deals that were made. The Flyers seen players like Bob Boughner, Brendan Shanahan, Miro Satan and others leave to new teams. In return Philly brought in young talents such as Matt Stajan, Dmitri Kalinin, Hugh Jessiman, Brandon Nolan and more. These players will have key roles in the production of the team in the future.

The season was a disapointment from the first drop of the puck, but it was not all a lost cause. Forward Brian Savage had a superb year for the club scoring 36 goals and adding 38 helpers for a total of 74 points in 78 games. These stats proved to the CLUTCH world that Savage is a talented player by playing the season with nothing to work with. He has been one of the most consistant Flyers from the past 2 years.

The Flyers have also made a shake up on their blueline, bringing in steady defenders in Aki Berg, and Stan Neckar, a defence that already has young talent in Denis Seidenberg. The team also aquired a stellar 2 way defencman in Adam Foote for a younger dman earlier in the season. Foote has a ton of work upcoming in the year/s ahead. For years Adam has been a very reliable and underrated defencman for the teams he had played for, he has never got the credit he deserved. This upcoming season will be Footes time to shine for the Flyers and he will be called on to play a steady defencive game and chipping in on the offencive side on occasion.

Goaltending has always been a concern for the Philadelphia Flyers orginazation. This season was no different. Hackett had an off year and possibly showing the signs of his career coming to an end with his inconsistant play. Jussi Markannen had a mediocre season for the time he played, he will be seeing alot of action next season if the Flyers can not find a replacement for the retired Jeff Hackett. Markannen may possibly become the Flyers new #1 goalie in their rebuilding phase.

The Philadelphia Flyers have their work cut out for them coming up in the next few years, if they can get a hold of a decent goalie and one or two forwards that could make a difference, they could quickly change their outlook from rebuilding to a contender once again.
