Blues open rookie camp

After having invited many of the kids who play hockey in the St Louis area as well as there families to come watch the Blues rookies take to the ice for the 1st time at the Kiel center there was approximately 4000 blues fans in attendance. Add to that the entire Blues coaching and scouting staff including those from both farm teams and the Baby Blues the Blues rookies had a lot to prove here tonight fighting for there jobs in there respective squads.

Turning many heads was Nicolas Corbeil who many insiders feel will be suiting up for the Blues pro quad this season after posting an impressive 2nd half with the Baby Blues. In today's practice which included skating passing and shooting skills he was by far and away the best player on the ice and showed an intensity matched by no other player on the ice.

Another of the players who had a strong day was 2nd year pro Tuomas Nissinen. In the scrimmage he refused to let in a goal as he shut out team blue in the morning scrimmage. His opposition however the newly drafted Jeff Glass was pulled after letting in 3 goals on 9 shots. It appears the Blues young goalie has a lot of work to do before he is ready for even this type of competition.

GM Foley however had a positive spin on the poor performance, "He was just kind of thrown in to the game after Sanford strained his groin and come on lets be honest this isn't WHL caliber players he was facing Corbeil made 2 awesome passes to set up the 1st and 3rd goal Glass let in. Those where the type of passes guys like Brodeur or even Bulin would be hard pressed to make the save."

The Main camp wont start for another week as the Blues staff wants to get a good look at all the Blues jr and farm team players hoping to find the diamond in the rough. As for the score of the morning scrimmage it was 5-0 in 3 10 minute periods. Team white was able to dominate and Corbeil was named player of the day with his 2 goal 2 assist performance.
