Capitals Corner Profile: Rob Blake

In the first of a series of player profiles, Capitals Corner takes a look at new defender Rob Blake. The 34-year-old joins Washington as a free agent acquisition and will immediately move to the top of the list on the Capitals' blue line.

The 6-5 and 220 pound star has good speed, intensity and strength. He's also excellent at both ends and can pass the puck very well. Blake is a good puckhandler, skates well and has strong endurance. Last season he scored 11 goals and dished out 34 assists with 182 hits in 73 games.

Off the ice, Rob spends his summer in Los Angeles, Calif. where he enjoys surfing and playing beach volleyball. He and his wife Brandy have a son, Jack (4), and a daughter, Brooke (2). They also own a Pug named Puggy.

If he hadn't become a professional hockey player, Blake says he would have been a farmer. His friends and teammates call him "Blakey," and he owns his own cloting line, BLUELINE. One of his other major off the ice activities is the charity celebrity golf tournament he hosts every summer with Luc Robitaille.

Rob's favorite celebrity is Pamela Anderson, and his favorite musician is Kid Rock. When it comes to the big screen, he loves NARC. Blakey's favorite pro athlete is Michael Jordan. And when it comes time to chow down, Rob most enjoys a good, juicy steak.

Come back next time when we take a look at another player in Capitals Corner.
