Capitals in Top 5 of Financial Rankings

The Washington Capitals are among the Top 5 CLUTCH clubs in financial rankings released today. The team's current balance of $21,084,996 places the team fifth just ahead of the New York Islanders.

The team ended season three at a dismal $388,896 in the red. GM John Henry then came on the scene and through hard work cutting costs and raising revenues, the team ended season four with over $37,000,000 in the bank. The incredible profit was over $40,000,000 in one season despite averaging just 12,848 fans per home game.

With the accounts flush with cash, the Washington management staff was aggressive in the free agent market, landing superstars Rob Blake and Ziggy Palffy. Also joining the team in the open market was Anson Carter, an excellent player in his own right.

Another area where the club was able to improve thanks to their new financial resources was the draft. The Capitals were able to add a number of draft picks through purchases and trades, finishing the draft with 11 picks.

While the Capitals aren't concerned with being first, fifth, of fifteenth in finances, the money certainly helps as the team builds for this season and the future.
