Sens GM Has Fingers Crossed!
Sens GM Jason Schmuck has his fingers crossed after submitting his presignings to the Commissioner's office this weekend. With a this season finally in view, GM Schmucky has prepared his offer sheets and is hoping for the best, especially when it comes to his key players.
First off is newly acquired superstar, Alexei Kovalev. The Senators chose to use their Franchise Player tag on him this year to ensure that he remains with the club for at least one season. In keeping with club policy, no details on the offer have been released. However, it is rumoured that the Sens have offered Kovalev a long-term deal with hopes of locking Selanne up next season.
Next up is youngster, Pierre-Marc Bouchard. Schmucky has been keen on this guy since the get-go but is still extremely disappointed that the previous GM encouraged Bouchard to jump to the CLUTCH so quickly, rather than spending a year or two in the Junior ranks. However, Bouchard has improved greatly over the past 2 years and should be a force out on the ice this year as he secures a 2nd line Center job, pushing veteran Nedved to the checking line.
Finally, superstar defenseman Ryan Whitney is reported to be on the Senators list of players that must be resigned. Whitney improved a great deal this season moving into the 80's in DF and being known now as one of the premiere young D-men in CLUTCH. Again, the terms are undisclosed but it is reported that the Sens are trying to lock Whitney up for a long-term deal as well as Bouchard and Kovy.
