Capitals Corner Profile: Dan Boyle

The second player going into Capitals Corner is defender Dan Boyle. Entering his third season with the club, the 29-year-old is an established veteran with Washington and will likely play with Rob Blake in the No. 1 defensive pairing.

The 5-11, 190 pounder, has adequate speed and is a good all-around blueliner. His best attribute is his passing, but he also has good intensity and strength. Boyle isn't a standout at either end of the ice, but he plays well both ways. Last season he scored nine goals and dished out 17 assists with 86 hits and 0 PIMs in 60 games. Dan missed the early part of the season due to a contract dispute.

Boyle, a native of Ottawa, Ontario started skating at age 6. He was a Flyers fan growing up and a big fan of Rick Tocchet. His current favorite player is Brian Leetch.

Dan was a pitcher when he played baseball as a youngster, and he credits his mental toughness to his time on the mound. Boyle's favorite television show is Late Night with Conan O'Brien on NBC.
