Rangers Will Weight for Leadership
The New York Rangers were foiled in their attempt to add some veteran leadership to their team when Doug Weight signed with Tampa Bay. The Rangers were rumored to have had Weight all but inked to a 2 year deal worth 1.1 million with a $500,000 signing bonus when Tampa stepped in and topped it with 3 year 1.6 million deal and a staggering 2 million dollar signing bonus.
"We simply coudn't justify that kind of term or signing bonus," lamented GM Burns of the Rangers. "We feel out team is lacking in the leadership area and Weight certainly could have been a major influence in the dressing room. He still a good set up man and we thought he could be paired with Nash on our third line or perhaps even see duty on our second line. Unfortunately we felt his impact would be limited after this year and, therefore, had to bow out of the running. We think our most pressing needs are at centre and right wing. We could use a stay at home defenceman and will continue to look for veterans to lead this talented young team."
