Junior Capitals Douse Flames

Sean Bergenheim set up three goals to lead the Washington Junior Capitals to a 5-2 victory over the Calgary Junior Flames on Day 64. The victory moves Washington to 13-16-3 for the season.

Calgary opened the scoring late in a penalty-filled first period. The steady parade to the penalty box would be a theme for the game as the calls came early and often. Shastin got the goal for Calgary at 19:20 from Printz to make it 1-0 at the intermission. The other action in the period was a fight where Branko Radivojevic beat up Calgary's King at 13:33, and a second fight that saw Fabien Laniel beat up poor Mr. King at 18:45.

Washington tied the game early in the second period when Lance Moynch netted from Patrick O'Sullivan and Mikhail Kuleshov after just 21 seconds. The Capitals then took their first lead of the game 6:31 on Cory Urquhart's shorthanded tally from Bergenheim and Henrik Tallinder.

The Flames tied the game on the power play at 4:41 of the final period, but Washington took over after the goal. Jakub Cutta scored the eventual game-winner from Sean Kotary and Igor Shadulov at 7:14, before Kotary made it 4-2 from Cutta and Bergenheim at 11:36. Ryan MacMurchy added a late goal from Bergenheim to provide the final score.

Daniel Taylor made 26 saves to earn the win and improve to 5-5-1. Levente Szuper stopped 29 shots in the loss for Calgary. Chris Heino-Lindberg made one save in relief.

The Junior Capitals return to action on Day 67 against Montreal.
