Fans Riot as League Shut Down Continues
Despite a league announcement stating the play would resume desperate fans were slapped in the face. The violence started in New York city where the Rangers opened their doors, sold tickets and sung the National Anthem before cancelling the game.
The General Manager of the Rangers strode to centre ice with a mike in his hand and started to lambaste the league and the players.
"There will be no game tonight," he began. "But not because of the efforts of the New York Rangers organization," he continued as the fans exploded in a chorus of boos. "We anticipated a game tonight but the players did not show up and the league office stayed dark. Who wants to see some godamned hockey!? Are we going to do something about it! Let's burn this M****ERF***ER DOWN!" Burns then proceeded to smash the mike into the ice. He then ran to the home bench and began to hack at it with an axe. The crowd went into a frenzy.
Burns has been arrested again and has been charged with inciting a riot, assault, vandalism, arson, assaulting a police officer, littering, loitering, public nudity, and defecating in a police vehicle.
Crowd violence spread across the league.
In Toronto fans showed up for the game but were met with a locked arena. Fans quickly became unruly and began to cause damage. They took their rage out by locating the Leaf GM's car and completely destroying it.
Washington saw clashes between fans and riot police. No one was hurt save the man in the white shirt above who was concussed with a rock thrown by the fan directly behind him.
In perhpas one of the most ill fated promotions of all time Columbus' "Medieval Battle Gear" promotion led to widespread bloodshed. Thousands of fans showed up clad in armour with swords to an empty arena and pillaged the city. They eventually met police on a large plain and were defeated.
In Nashville one young college student burnt his own house down. He covered his face and tried to hide his identity but gave himself away by standing in front of his house with a gas can and his identification in his wallet.
Every single Clutch city was rocked with violence due to the massive disapointment and frustration of being told that the league would not resume save Florida where a lone man held a sign and read the paper. He finally gave up and walked away. "I'm not sure people in Florida are even aware we have a hockey team," he muttered.
It was a sad day across North America. One that could have been avoided if not for the long trail of broken promises, dashed expectations, and callouse abuse of the fans' emotions perpetrated by the league over the last 3 weeks.
Only time will tell if the fans show back up to watch games if and when league play does resume.
