JUNIOR CANES GET BOOST FROM JUNIOR

Carolina

After a poor showing for game 1, the Canes were called out by head coach Craig Hartsburg and responded in a big way. The Canes deadly line of Jeff Carter, igor Mirnov and Junior Lessard combined for 4 goals and 9 points in a 6-3 drubbing of the Sabres. Jeff Glass pushed aside 29 of 32 shots for the victory.

"We wanted offense from our gunners and they showed up tonight," said head coach Craig Hartsburg. "Mirnov was dazzling tonight and Carter was his usual playmaking self. Junior Lessard was the guy though. A 4 point evening including his first career hat trick in the playoffs. He was fantastic."

Lessard, who has likely played his last regular season game in the juniors, took the call from head coach Hartsburg personally and vowed to step up his game. After leading the club in points throughout the season, he was passed late by Carter and his play was slipping. This game might have given him the confidence he needs.

"I knew that I had done some things incorrectly lately. I often find I am trying too hard to get things done and that is not my game. I need to keep it all simple. Crash the net, forecheck and get open. Playing with two of the most dynamic offensive forces in the league every night in Igor and Carts makes things a lot easier but I still need to hold up my end of the bargain. I think tonight everything clicked for us."

The Canes have now tied up the series at 1 and head off to Buffalo. Look for Jeff Glass to continue in nets for the Canes. Weber has served his first of 5 games.
