JR Callups Could Look Good in Ottawa
As the Ottawa Senators await the results of their offer sheets put out on Saturday, GM Schmucky is hard at work trying to sort out the mess that is JR Callup time! With 6 players no longer fit for Junior, GM Schmucky will have some tough decisions to make. Is there room for all 6 on the pro farm roster or will some have to be sent off to free agency?
Today we will discuss the top 3 JR callups for the Sens that definitely will not be left unsigned:
1) RW Chris Kelly - Kelly put up solid numbers last year for the Sens placing 3rd in team scoring. However, his biggest role this year with the Pro Sens could be on the Penalty Kill. Kelly's summer camps have focused solely on Defense as he tries to find a weakness in the pro squad that he could fill. With 77 DF, Kelly could see himself on the Sens Checking line to start the season and 2nd PK Line.
2) C - Nick Tarnasky - Tarnasky led the JR Sens in scoring last season and had plans of leading them to a JR Cup run before those bastard Panthers got in the way. Tarnasky has a great scoring touch but it is his Strength and Puck Control that make him a force on the ice. At 22 years old, Tarnasky will most likely see himself with the Farm Squad for most of this season which should give him time to grow and develop into a useful pro player.
3)RW - Tomas Plihal - Plihal had an outstanding year with the JR squad. Moving himself from a 67 OV rating to a 72 this year just goes to show how much this youngster has improved; and that improvement came without training camps due to his age. Plihal is not a scoring winger as much as he is a fast, passing player that soars down the wing always looking to make a play. Plihal will stay with the Farm squad as well this season looking to improve just a little more before cracking the youthful Senators Pro roster.
