Hurricanes Storm Capitals

The Washington Capitals slipped further out of the playoff race on Day 117, falling 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes on home ice. The loss dropped Washington to 23-31-9.

Carolina took the lead in an action packed opening period when Parise scored an unassisted goal on the power play at 12:27. Washington came back and tied the game on Joffrey's Lupul marker from Severin Blindenbacher and David Vyborny at 17:06.

The Hurricanes took complete control in the second period. Carolina outshot the Caps 15-3 and scored three timed to put the game away. Stuart struck first from Ryder and Connolly at 2:19, before Zetterberg netted from Stuart and Connolly at 5:19. Heatley finished it off from Fisher and Nash on the power play at 16:01.

JS Giguere made 33 saves in the loss. Former Capital Manny Legace stopped 21 shots to earn the win.

The Capitals visit Montreal on Day 118.
