Capitals Call Up 5 From Juniors
The Washington Capitals called up five players from their less than successful junior club recently. The players; Kyle Clark, Troy Ferguson, Nathan Forster, Erik Jensen, and Mike Zigomanis, will likely see time on the farm next season.
Clark, 26, is a strong grinding right winger. He hasn't signed a contract yet, but that situation should be resolved soon. He provides fourth line grit and toughness to the Capitals club.
Ferguson, 26, is a speed demon on the left wing. With a season or two of experience in the pros, he could compete for a regular shift with the Capitals. In nine games in juniors he had two goals and three assists. Ferguson is also holding out.
Forster, 26, is a strong and speedy defender and will compete for a job this season. In 14 games in junior he had two assists and 44 hits. He signed a two-year deal at $800,000 per year and a $1 million signing bonus.
Jensen, 26, is a two-way forward that will head to the farm next season. He has good intensity and strength, but otherwise he doesn't shine in any category. In 16 games in juniors he had one goal and 10 assists. He signed a two-year deal at $800,000 per year and a $300,000 signing bonus.
Zigomanis, 26, is a shifty center and will look to make his way from the farm to the big club. He also could be a trading chip as the Capitals are deep at center. In 20 games on the junior club he had four goals and nine assists. He signed a two-year deal at $1.3 million per year and a $500,000 signing bonus.
