Profiling Ottawa's Captains

Ottawa Captain: Dick Tarnstrom
Tarnstrom is a strong, offensive defenseman for the Sens. He has been in the league for quite some time and is expected to provide some great offense from the point on powerplay and 5 on 5 situations. Although Tarnstrom hasn't been in the NHL long because he chose to stay in Sweden and hone his skills before making the trek into the NHL, he provides solid leadership from the blueline for the Sens. It is expected that Dick will help guide young future stars like Andreas Holmqvist, Ryan Whitney, and Filip Novak in their transition to the NHL and their quest to become the powerhouse blueliners the Sens expect them to be.

Ottawa Assistant Captain: Michael Ryder
Ryder is relatively young but is an excellent offensive leader for the Senators. He is the first player on the ice every morning and the last one off. His dedication to his team is incredible. Michael is constantly striving to improve his personal game with hopes that this will lead to an improved team game. Ryder has been assisting young wingers like David Petrasek, Rico Fata, and Alexei Smirnov in the offseason with their puckhandling and workout regiments. He is a true role model for these young players and if he continues to improve, could be a serious threat on offense as well.

Ottawa Assistant Captain: Petr Nedved
Petr is the only returning captain for the Sens this year. He has more experience and leadership than any other player on the team. He has been around the NHL the longest and has played for many contenders including the Penguins, Rangers and Blues. He won a silver medal in the 1994 olympics in Lillehammer alongside Paul Kariya and thus, has the most impressive resume of any veteran forwards on the Sens.

Ottawa is not expected to make the playoffs this year but with the veteran leadership of these three players, Sens GM Jason Schmuck hopes to make the playoffs and start molding his young stars into superstars for future seasons!
