Leafs open Season at home against the Flames

The Toronto Maple Leafs season kicks off with a home tilt against the Calgary Flames. In what has been a hectic and lengthy offseason, the Leafs, like many teams, are anxious to get things rolling.

The Flames are without a GM and from whats been said this is a common occurence. I guess one could say its as common as Carolina drafting a Canadian kid, the Lightning rolling over ALL of their opponents, or the Avs peddling Zubov (thank God Ryan did the league a favor and traded for him..)) That being said, the Leafs can't take them lightly with guys like Naslund, Kolvachuk and the Kipper in goal.

As far as the Leafs go, for many players, this is their first game in a very long time. The layoff is very similar to the NHL strike and I'm sure getting back on track will be easier for some than for others. This is also the start of life without Vincent Lecavalier. Having Eric Lindros will help fill that void, but they wont be able to rely on a guy like Vinny to score so many goals.

Eric will likely aid in setting up others, and in time, that might actually be a good thing for this team. With Ovechkin coming in that deal for Vinny, Alex will need time to be groomed into the star we all know he will be. With that said, the Leafs will need more contributions from others to fill that large gap of goals.

Here we go!
