CANES HOPE TO SIGN HOLDOUT SNIPER MICHAEL WOODFORD
Carolina
As 20 games have passed and the Carolina Hurricanes have found themselves atop the standings with an outstanding 30 points, one piece of the puzzle has been left out of the mix. For the Hurricanes management and staff, that piece is Michael Woodford.
When Florida drafted the youngster out of Michigan University, Woodford was never known for his offensive flair, but in his senior season, it appeared than any lack of production he had encountered early in his career would simply vanish.
Acquired in a deal that sent disgruntled forward Adam Deadmarsh to the Panthers, Woodford came to the team as a marketable gunner. A tenacious forechecking forward with great wheels, Woodford has been touted as an heir apparent to the top line on the right side.
"He brings a lot of energy every shift," said head coach Joel Quenneville. "I think he could easily step in and make a name for himself quickly. Holding out has made a lot of people upset with him, but for me, I just want him in the lineup."
The Canes are apparently close to signing their young speedster. Details to follow.
