CANES BEAT SABRES AGAIN, UNDEFEATED IN 15!

Carolina

The luck continues as the Carolina Hurricanes met up with the Buffalo Sabres in a defensive battle and found themselves at the end of the game with yet another 2 point performance.

Jose Theodore, arguably the league's best netminder at this point of the season, was once again stellar, stopping 22 of 23 shots while sophomore center Kyle Wellwood potted the Canes only two goals for his 8th and 9th of the season. Speedy Jeff Friesen added an assist on both goals.

"We needed to come back in this one again," said defenseman Jay McKee, "but for some reason, we were able to. Our big line did not look like they have the past few weeks, but it makes no difference. We snagged two points and the streak is still on."

In fact, one would be hard-pressed to remember the last game the Canes lost, which was 29 days ago when the New York Islanders snuck past the Canes 4-3. Since then, the Canes have been on fire and now sit at an outstanding 16-3-4 record, something that very few would have predicted at this point of the season.

"We try not to get ahead of ourselves, obviously," said head coach Joel Quenneville. "The guys realize that they are a part of something special right now and don’t take that for granted. I for one think they have earned every bit of this streak and I know they will try and maintain it. The schedule gets very difficult in the upcoming games and Jose is going to need a rest so we shall see. As of right now, however, it is hard to take the guy out."

Theodore has made strides to be the best and at the moment, he essentially is. With a personal 14-3-4 record, 2.37 goals against average and a .915 save percentile, Theodore leagues the league in all three major categories.

"He has been the glue this year," said Quenneville. "I cannot give enough credit to how he has stepped up this season and how he has improved in his preparation of the games, his focus and his determination to just win us games. Last season he had his moments and it was debatable if acquiring him was worth what we gave, but this season, he has put all those things aside and just became what we knew he could be. The league's best goaltender."
