JR CANES DOWN THRASHERS

Carolina

The young guns of Carolina snuck past the Thrashers 3-2 in a tough game on the road. The young Canes got some much needed offense from two of its veterans in the win as Kirk McLeod and David Cornacchia both buried a goal.

"We can take this win and file it in the what we should be doing folder," said head coach Craig Hartsburgh. "We played a solid defensive game and didn't get running around out there like we usually do."

Canes netminder Konstantin Barulin knocked away 23 of 25 shots in the victory and was given far more help than usual.

"We were pretty much ripped apart in practice yesterday," said defenseman She Weber. "It is no secret that as a whole, we have sucked this year. Last in the league in goals against doesn't usually get a coach fired up. We have more or less been okay all season because our forwards are lights out, but we need to step it up in our own end. We can't give up four goals a game and win consistently."

Of particular note, the line of Ryan Getzlaf, Jeff Tambellini and captain Brandon Reid went -2 in the game. The trio were buzzing all night but the lack of consistent play had their coach fuming.

"That line won't be together tonight," said the coach.

The Canes take on Phoenix tonight and the new look Canes hope to continue their winning ways.
