Tampa News
(Tampa) Mario Lemieux is ready to carry the Tampa Lightning back into playoff contention and if he can stay healthy, he should do that. After another injury that saw him miss some games, he is back on his point per game pace and helping the team win 4 in a row.
"I think I can still play and god willing I will be around for another season after this one. I feel great and after the little injury to start the year I am ready to play hard and bring this team back up in the standings. " Mario stated. "I think we had some bad luck and maybe passing the torch to Hurme was a bit brisk, I think he will do fine in net. He is starting to look more comfortable and should get stronger as the season progresses. Gm Sprackman wanted to shore up the goaltending for the future and getting Kari was a great move but losing Thibault will hurt a bit now. With the age of our defence and most of the forwards and a great young goalie in net like Lehtonen, I think Gm Sprackman made the right move."
There have been many attempts to Mario in the last year but so far no one has stepped up to the plate for his services. Gm Sprackman has stated he wanted a young winger and maybe picks, depending on the younger winger. If he isn't traded, then Gm Sprackman will be just as happy, since Mario will contribute a lot to the team. Robert Svehla and Doug Weight have asked for trades but so far nothing has worked out. Again, the bargain basement shoppers have been around looking to rip the players out of Tampa but Gm Sprackman has always stated, if they don't make a good offer, then don't bother making an offer.Another player that may look for a trade is Chris Nielsen but Gm Sprackman has stated he would only listen to a really good offer for the star winger playing on the farm.
(Team Rumors)
The Lightning room has been a center of talk lately with the word Gm Sprackman may indeed be leaving the team. Rumor has him leaving to go overseas and he would be away for some time. Will he keep control of the team? Team and league officials have not commented on this but if it is true, we may get an official announcement from Gm Sprackman in the near future.
(Jr League)
The junior team has slipped in the pass month and find themselves at the bottom of the conference. Gm Sprackman submitted his list for camps and some players should see some time in specialty camps to improve their skills. Gm Sprackman has stated that even though he likes the junior league, it is a low prioeity for the team. Winning the cup is more important and will be once again.
