Junior Capitals Tie Senators

The Washington Junior Capitals earned points in their third straight game on Day 55 after skating to a 3-3 tie with the Ottawa Junior Senators. Washington moves to 10-14-2 with the tie.

Ottawa came out quickly in the first period and dominated the opening 20 minutes. Golovin made the strong performance pay with an unassisted goal at 5:51. The Capitals found themselves shorthanded three times, but the penalty killing units did the job to keep the Senators from extending their lead.

Things heated up in the second period as a pair of fights and end-to-end offensive action brought the crowd to its feet. Greg Mauldin dropped the gloved with O'Hanley at 2:04 and the result was a draw. Washington took advantage of the new energy and Patrick O'Sullivan tied the game from Sean Bergenheim and Lance Moynch at 5:32. A couple minutes after the goal, the gloves dropped again, and this time Moynch beat up Ottawa's Platil. The Senators turned up the pressure after the fight, and Hendricks made it 2-1 when he scored from Platil and Bohac at 15:23. Washington answered right back, however, on Zbynek Novak's 10th goal of the season from Branko Radivojevic at 17:50.

With the game on the line in the final period, both teams raised their defensive games, but the goals still came. The Capitals took their first lead of the game at 11:37 when Mikhail Kuleshov netted from Greg Mauldin and Maxim Orlov. Washington then went on the penalty kill, and this time Ottawa would take advantage. With Kuleshov in the box for elbowing, McLeod scored his fifth goal of the game from MacLellan and Semin at 13:37 to tie the game.

Brad Topping made 33 saves for Washington to up his record to 6-10-2. Adam Berkhoel stopped 22 shots for Ottawa.

The Junior Capitals are back in action on Day 56 against Buffalo.
