CANES BRASS IN MEETINGS ALL DAY, TRADE ON THE WAY?

Carolina

The Hurricanes held a closed door, all aboard type of meeting today. Sources have indicated that veteran sniper Aexei Kovalev was seen entering head coach Joel Quenneville's office today and leaving in an obviously bad mood.

"Kovalev has been ridden hard by the media around here," said Carolina spokesman Brad Marsh. "I think he has a lot of things internally that he is battling with and it has not helped at all that he is on the front page of every Cane story about how he let everyone down."

The veteran gunner has maintained a point a game pace all season long despite allegations of lazy play and not caring about the team. Kovalev is also set to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and commands the most money of all Hurricane players.

"If he is going to be dealt, I would fully expect he will be going west," said Marsh. "This team won't make a deal to help out the rest of the conference unless they got exactly what they wanted in the deal. Right now though, it is not a good time to be beefing up the lineup."

So the speculation will continue in Cane ville, and what sort of deal may be in the works? Time will tell all.

Carolina will be taking on the Detroit Red Wings tonight in a game that the Canes hope to steer the ship back on course.
