Panthers Losing Streak Hits 2 Against Wings

The Panthers are coming off a loss to the Coyotes and they have a little more then a game at stake at this time. The Red Wings GM Keith Pierson and Panthers GM Michael Perrault have a side wager on the teams two game season series.

"We were talking the other day and thought we would make the games a little more interesting." GM Perrault told reporters. "We agreed that each game would profit the other team. We wanted to start a little rivalry and see if our teams responded to the challenge." Perrault chuckled.

Well the laugh was on the Panthers as the Red Wings tamed the Panthers in convincing fashion. It was the Panthers undisciplined play and the Wings power play that were the difference in this game as 3 of the 4 wings goals were power play goals.

Nick Schultz scored a power play marker at 14:46 of the first for a 1-0 Wings lead.

Jamie Langenbrunner scored the teams second power play goal in late in the second period at 18:57 to give his team a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes. Detroit also out shot the Panthers 14-7 in the period.

The third was the Panthers best period as they out shot the Wings 13-6 but the results were the same on this night. Pavel Brendle gave the Wings a 3-0 lead at 3:30 of the third on the teams third power play goal and just :22 seconds later Jamie Langenbrunner scored his second of the game and the Wings only 5-5 goal to give Detroit a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Panthers tried to mount a come back when Michal Handzus scored at 4:20 to cut the lead to 4-1. Ivan Novoseltsev cut the lead to 2 at 9:29 on an individual effort but that was all the Panthers would get as Olaf Kolzig shut the door from there on in to preserve the Wings 4-2 victory.

The Panthers will look to end their losing streak when they host the Montreal Canadians in a couple days.
