Leafs new players contribute in OT win over Hawks.
The first day after the confirmed blockbuster trade saw 6 new faces come into Toronto. The ones who contributed to the win arent who you might have expected.
Here is a quick low-down of who contributed (or not)
---Mats Sundin's impact was nil, and he looked out of place.
---Shawn Horcroft played a defensive roll on the 3rd line and didnt figure much into the game. Also didnt have a goal allowed while he was on the ice, which for the third line is an improvement
---Igor Knyazev Same situation as Horcroft as they played together. Infact, hes their spare dman.
---Adam Nittel, the guy tossed in at the end of this deal as an add-on, grabbed for his toughness. Assists on the OT winner, and gets a 5 minute kicking Major. On a team full of panzies, any major is an improvement. Sent a few messages for sure.
---Teppo Numminen, scored a goal, and considering he was brought in for his defensive abilities, he did even more than expected this game. Bonus
---Magnus Arvedson, the other toss in to this deal, was brought in for cheap 3rd/4th line checking depth on the wing. With Lindros's injury, he was put on the second line and scored a goal and was the second star of the game. We may have to re-look at playing our checking line as the 2nd unit as some other top teams seem to have tried with success.
The Leafs arent done dealing, and updated their trade block.
next up will be 418 MapleLeaf at Capitals
another test with a team fighting for a playoff spot.
