Time is Ticking for the Senators
The Ottawa Senators' clock is ticking...but no one is sure what they are waiting for. As the season moves forward the Sens get worse, and worse......and worse. After 10 game Ottawa was leading their division and the team looked promising to maybe squeeze out a playoff spot! Now, as time ticks along, the Senators existence in the top 8 in the conference fades away and their team begins to look worse than ever.
With 'leaders' like Brendan Morrison and Petr Nedved having =/- averages of -10 and -11, it seems like the season is a lost cause, and we aren't even halfway through!
However, DON'T PANIC Senators fans! As this season looks to be hopeless, the teams future does not. The Senators have a very solid, young defense core consisting of Andreas Holmqvist, Ryan Whitney and Filip Novak that will undoubtedly be one of the strongest in the league in future years. They also have 26 year old Michael Ryder and 21 year old Pierre Marc Bouchard as well as 5 other forwards under 26 that are developing nicely with little ice-time.
Veteran Forwards Petr Nedved, Brendan Morrison and Teemu Selanne are providing good leadership and mentoring despite their horrible +/- 's and actual performance. As well, Tom Poti and Alexei Zhitnik have been exceptional leaders on defense for the youngsters as they attempt to mould and polish their game.
So the only real question for the future of the Senators is; WHO THE HELL IS GONNA PLAY GOALIE? The Sens need to make a move for a decent starting goaltender if their future has any hope. Roman Turek would be a decent backup man, but he has proven to be a shitty starter with numbers like 3.66 GAA and .874 Sv %.
The Sens are in the market for a strong goaltender or young goalie with potential for the future in this league.
