Bruins fenced in by Rangers
Mike Dunham's strong goaltending performance carried to their second straight victory over a streaking team, as the Rangers beat down the Bruins 4-3 Saturday morning.
Four Rangers scored en route to the team's victory, including Pavel Bure's thirteenth of the season on a power play as the winner. Bure's goal came 15:29 into the third period, and was a minute and a half after Martin Havlat's cross-checking penalty. The winning goal came on a short shot after a pass from Mike Ribeiro.
Andrew Raycroft showed signs he was tiring as the game progressed. He stopped twenty-nine of thirty-three shots he faced, as his record fell to 9-11-3 on the season.
The Bruins were flat - they took thirty-nine shots on goal, but they were not able to make any offense happen. Sean Brown, Peter Sykora, and Jochan Hecht all notched goals, including Hecht's twelfth of the season.
More than thirteen thousand fans showed up to watch the two teams match up, as the Bruins fought for the Adams Division lead. The loss dropped then to second in terms of winning percentage, though both Pittsburgh and Boston have amassed twenty-five points on the season.
GM Joshua Anderson, when asked about the division standing, expressed a positive outlook. "We've scored more goals than anyone in the division, and really, if not for such a pure shit start, we'd be in control here. So hey - why not? We'll give it a run, claim the second seed, and see what happens from there."
