CANES SNAP 2 GAME LOSING STREAK

Carolina

The Hurricanes, in need of some new solutions, went with some new lines on Sunday and once again found victory. Rookie netminder Robert Gherson made the start for the Canes and Theodore made a relief appearance for the youngster, but in the end, the Canes came out victorious in a 6-5 shootout win.

Cory Stillman led the charge for the Canes offense with 3 assists. Alexei Kovalev, after being called out by his fellow team mates, shot back with a 2 goal performance as well.

"I moved some guys around tonight, mainly to see if I could light a fire under some of them," said head coach Joel Quenneville. "I think the move helped and it looks to me like we are back on track."

The Canes were down in the contest early as Montreal had all cylinders firing. Down 4-2 after the first and 5-3 after the second, the Cane rally took place in the third with 3 unanswered goals. Brendan Bell scored his second of the year, followed by captain Shane Doan. To everyone's surprise however, the game winning goal came by none other than Alexei Kovalev. Theodore would stand strong the rest of the way.

"Well, we figured we could do it, but there is a long road ahead," said the captain. "Hopefully this crew can see that we can come back at any time and win a game. I just don’t love being on the losing end so early in a game."
