Predators Pounce on Capitals
The Washington Capitals continued their roller-coaster ride through the season on Day 46 in a 2-1 loss to the Nashville Predators. Washington falls to 10-10-3 for the season with the setback.
After a scoreless first period that saw the Capitals squander three power play chances, the Predators took control of the game in the second. Modano scored first from Brunette and Bombardir at 2:11, and Hartnell netted the second from Sturm and Thornton at 17:30. Washington only managed three shots on goal in the second period, and the home crowd was not pleased with the effort, sending the players to the locker room with a chorus of boos.
The Capitals finally got on the board in the third period when Patrick Marleau scored from Rob Blake and Mikael Renberg at 6:09. Unfortunately, the team couldn't manage another goal to force overtime as Nashville held on for the victory.
Manny Legace stopped 24 shots to take the loss for the Caps. Tomas Vokoun made 21 saves to improve to 14-2-1 for the season.
