FORMER CANES TOPPLE CAROLINA
Carolina
Marek Zidlicky and Sergei Fedorov each had 2 point nights as the Carolina Hurricanes were defeated 3-1 at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings. Mike Fihser replied with the only goal of the game for the good guys.
"A pretty lacklustre game from our side," said head coach Joel Quenneville. "We tried to make some things happen and in the end, there really wasn’t much going on out there."
The Canes fired a season low 21 shots at Wings netminder Olaf Kolzig, most of which would not be considered quality shots. The Canes were also 0-2 on the power play, sparking more concern as the production of super star Alexei Kovalev, who once again did not produce any points.
"We are not going to point fingers at one guy," said defenseman Jay McKee. "When a team shoots 21 times in this league then it was more than one guy not showing up. I thought we were pretty pathetic out there, to be honest."
Carolina travels to San Jose today to take on the Sharks and their new look front line of Martin St. Louis, Glen Murray and Jaromir Jagr. The trio will likely cause a lot of problems for the Canes who must stay out of the box.
"When you play a team with as much high octane offense as those guys, you gotta be ready," said McKee. "Drapes and Doaner are gonna be all over them."
