Goaltending Controversy In New York
Hot goaltending has powered the New York Ranger surge of late but rumours are coming out of New York that the Jocelyn Thilbault and Mike Dunham are not happy with one another.
It was not long ago that Mike Dunham was the undisputed number one goalie and, after an excellent training camp he looked like he had a secure job. Then, with losses mounting, management pulled the trigger on a blockbuster trade that sent Kari Lehtonen to Tampa bay and saw Thilbault and his Stanley Cup ring arrive in New York. Thilbault was immediately named the number one goaltender and has helped turn the team around.
An inside report claims that Dunham and coach Roger Neilson had a heated conversation in which Dunham threatened to walk out on the team. Dunham was heard screaming "It's not my fault we've been losing! It's because of me we've won anything!"
Two game ago Dunham got a chance to start and single handedly won two games for the Rangers as he allowed 3 goals on 39 shots against the Bruins and all 34 shots against the Ducks to propel his team to a 1-0 shut out. The Rangers were badly outshot in both games but the team announced that Thilbault will start tonight.
Thilbault was did not practice today however and a series of incidents may affect his performance tonight. Apparently his skates and cup mysteriously disappeared. Thilbault is said to have had several mysterious attacks of diaherrea in the past few days and Duhnam has been seen hovering around his food suspiciously. The tires on Thilbaults care were slashed last night so he couldn't get home until very late.
No one on the team would comment on the events but Mike Dunham is the prime suspect.
Speculation continues.
