Junior Capitals Roll Rangers
The Washington Junior Capitals won a one-goal game for the second straight night, taking a 2-1 decision over the New York Junior Rangers on Day 52. The victory moves Washington to 10-14-1 for the season.
The Capitals jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Zbynek Novak netted from Lance Moynch and Igor Shadulov after just 13 seconds. Neither team managed a goal for the rest of the period, but there were numerous power play chances. Washington had three stints on the man advantage, while the Rangers had two.
Washington had several more power play chances in the second period, but it took until the 14:46 mark to extend the lead. Patrick O'Sullivan scored the goal from Sean Bergenheim and Maxim Orlov with the man advantage. The Capitals went on the penalty kill a minute after the goal, and the defense did a good job keeping New York off the board.
The Rangers finally lit the lamp at 5:45 of the third period when Kesa netted from Bararuk. The goal was Kesa's fifth of the season. Neither team scored again as Washington killed six minutes of power play time to preserve the win.
Daniel Taylor was excellent in net for the Capitals, stopping 28 shots to earn the win and improve to 4-4-0. Jason Churchill made 34 saves for New York.
