Jochan Hecht continued his claim-staking for team MVP tonight as he led the Bruins' continuing run in a 3-2 decision over rival Philadelphia Monday night in Boston. Hecht notched his team-high fourteenth goal and added an assist on a Martin Havlat shorthanded goal that ended up being the difference maker.
Having their best power play average of the year - fifty percent, (1 for 2), the Bruins took twenty shots on goal, compared to the Flyers nineteen.
The other Bruins' score was by Shawn McEachern on a first period powerplay. Derian Hatcher's highsticking call was the setup for the Martin Havlat-assisted goal at 18:36.
The Bruins had to come from behind as Philadelphia struck first, as Brad Leeb netted his first of the season in a 5-on-3 setup following Lars Jonnson and Sean Brown penalties.
Brian Savage pulled the game close with a goal just short of the sixteen minute mark, but that was all the Flyers could muster.
The Flyers fell to 14-16-2 on the year and "below the line" in the playoff standings. Boston has closed within one point of Toronto for the Adams Division lead at 15-4-3 and return to the road tonight to face Tampa Bay before returning home for a showdown with the Maple Leafs the following night.
