Junior Capitals Stunned by Stars

The Washington Junior Capitals were run off the ice by the Dallas Junior Stars in a penalty-filled affair on Day 70. Dallas came away with a 5-1 victory that dropped Washington to 14-18-3 for the season.

Neither team scored in the first period, but there were two fights to excite the crowd. In the first, Greg Mauldin fought to a draw with Dallas' Barinka, and in the second Patrick O'Sullivan duked it out with the Stars' Blazek.

Dallas opened the scoring early in the second period when Vlcek netted from Stafford and Chernov after just 23 seconds. Branko Radivojevic tried to get the momentum back on Washington's side by fighting Barinka, but it didn't work. Blazek scored for the Stars at 5:01 to make it 2-0, and Peter extended the lead to three goals when he lit the lamp from Blazek and Joseph at 9:59. The Capitals finally got a goal when Lance Moynch scored from O'Sullivan and Sean Bergenheim at 13:03.

Dallas continued to dominate in the final period, and Bateman made it 4-1 when he scored from Taticek and Blazek at 10:58. Volrab completed the scoring for the Stars with an unassisted goal on the power play at 16:08.

Daniel Taylor made 27 saves in the loss for Washington. Brad Topping made one stop in relief. Jason Bacashihua made 26 saves to earn the win for Dallas.

The Junior Capitals return to action on Day 72 against San Jose.
