CANES GAME ENDS WITH VICTORY, INJURIES

Carolina

The Hurricanes went to Vancouver to see an old friend and a game erupted. The Canescame to play and in the end, took down the Vacnouver Canucks 5-3.

It took under 5 minutes, but former Hurricane Alexei Kovalev received his welcome back to Carolina with a solid shot from second year defender Jeff Woywitka, and that was enough end the night of Kovalev.

"It was a typical night for the Hurricanes," said captain Shane Doan, who had 2 points in the game. "The Canes won and Kovalev didn’t have any points and quit the game early."

Marian Cisar made a triumphant return to Vancouver, adding two assists to his point total and going +2 on the game. Cisar, a speedy right winger, has since been added to the Cory Stillman and Mike Fisher line, a spot that was formerly held for the aforementioned Kovealev. Each player on the line picked up two points.

Robert Gherson, the young rookie netminder, made his second consecutive start and looked solid in between the pipes. After a rough start of the season, being pulled in all but one game, Gherson has now made two successful back to back starts allowing a total of 4 goals, including a heart breaking 1-0 loss where the taltented stopped was exceptional.

Also of note, Darcy Tucker took a slash from defenseman Ruslan Salei early in the second and did not return. Reports out of the Carolina camp are saying that Tucker’s wrist is not broken and does not look as serious as first thought. Tucker will, however, likely miss a couple games due to the injury. Look for rookie Michael Woodford to get another call to the Hurricanes lineup in place of the Canes gritty forward.

The Canes have tonight off.
