Junior Capitals Crush Canucks

The Washington Junior Capitals scored three first period goals and never looked back in a 5-1 victory over the Vancouver Junior Canucks on Day 69. The win moves Washington to 14-17-3 for the season.

Lance Moynch gave Washington a perfect start when he scored his 10th goal of the season from Matt Maglione and Sean Bergenheim at 1:24, but Vancouver answered back just over four minutes later on the power play. With Henrik Tallinder in the box for elbowing, Sainomaa lit the lamp from Branham and Courchaine at 5:40 to tie the game. The Capitals responded with a power play goal of their own at 11:40 to regain the lead. Igor Shadulov scored the goal from Zbynek Novak and Branko Radivojevic. Nearly seven minutes later it was 3-1 as Greg Mauldin netted his sixth of the year from Maxim Orlov and Fabien Laniel.

After a scoress second period, Washington extended the lead on a shorthanded goal by Begenheim at 10:18. Thirty-six seconds later the gloves dropped and Radivojevic beat up Vancouver's Redenbach. Mauldin added a late marker for the Capitals to complete the rout. Laniel and Brett Carson earned assists on the goal.

Daniel Taylor made 23 saves to earn the win and improve to 6-5-1. Brandon Crawford-West stopped 21 shots in the loss. Gabriel Bouthillette made three saves in relief.

The Junior Capitals are back in action on Day 70 against Dallas.
