CANES AND DEVILS COLLIDE AS GOOD ONCE AGAIN TRIUMPHS

Carolina

A shootout, barn burner type of win was not enough to calm down an irate Joel Quenneville, head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes.

"We have given up 30 damn power plays in 4 games," said the coach. "30 damn power plays. How the hell do these guys think they are going to win later on down the stretch when we sit and watch the game from the penalty box? 9 power plays today for god sakes. We even had to score a shorthanded goal. Damn this team!"

The Canes received two goal performances from Jeff Friesen and the Sheriff of Parkingham, Scott Parker. Multiple players on the Canes ended with two point performances.

"Offensively, this game showed we have the depthj to run and gun," said Captain Shane Doan. "Defensively and discipline-wise, we need to stop being so dumb out there. We were lucky to squeak out a win. I doubt we will be so lucky again."

With the win, the Canes remain tied with the Nashville Predators for second overall. At 55 point, the Canes are 6 points back of the league leading New York Islanders and 7 points up on the third place Florida Panthers, who are red hot at the moment. Florida is currently on a 5 game winning streak and are quickly rising in the standings.

"We need to concentrate on our own team and stop worrying about what others are doing," said Quenneville. "We cannot control what those teams are up to but what we can do is stay out of the damn box for more than a shift."

Carolina visits Chicago tonight.
