Junior Capitals Fall to Panthers

The Washington Junior Capitals dropped a tough 3-2 overtime decision to the Florida Junior Panthers on Day 107. With the loss the team falls to 22-26-6 for the season.

After a fight that saw Greg Mauldin beat up by Florida's McNeill, the Panthers opened the scoring through Bobrov at 8:22. Borodkin and Pushkarev assisted on the goal. Washington answered with a pair of goals late in the period to take the lead. Jean-Claude Sawyer netted the first from Ryan MacMurchy and Cory Urquhart at 17:05, before Urquhart made it 2-1 when he scored from MacMurchy and Mikhail Kuleshov at 19:43.

Neither team scored in the second period, and the Capitals clung to its 2-1 lead late into the final 20 minutes. Florida finally tied things up when Nielsen scored from Paetsch and Koivisto with just 1:08 remaining to force overtime.

The Panthers dominated the overtime session, outshooting Washington 3-0 before Bobrov netted the game-winner at 2:34.

Brad Topping made 30 saves in the loss for Washington. Lukas Mensator made 15 saves to earn the win for Florida.

The Junior Capitals return to action on Day 109 against Detroit.
