Junior Capitals Tie Rangers in 10-Goal Thriller

Sean Bergenheim assisted on three goals, while Maxim Orlov setup two more, to lead the Washington Junior Capitals to a 5-5 tie against the New York Junior Rangers on Day 98. The point moves Washington to 21-24-5.

The Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 5:17 of the first period behind goals from Dubin and Williams. Dubin's tally, his fifth of the season, came from Redlihs and Collymore at 1:14. Williams scored his goal on the power play from Ferland and Redlihs while Matt Maglione was in the box for cross-checking. Washington fought back with a goal of their own when Ivan Baranka netted from Bergenheim on the power play at 14:07.

New York extended its lead in the second period on a power play goal by Murray from Buturlin and Marois. The Caps were shorthanded for over four minutes early in the period as Lance Moynch took a double minor for highsticking and Tallinder earned an elbowing minor. Washington pulled a goal back late in the period on Patrick O'Sullivan's goal from Orlov and Bergenheim at 15:12, but the Rangers found the net again to make it 4-2 just 1:30 later. With O'Sullivan in the box for goaltender interference, Murray scored his second of the game on the man advantage from Buturlin and Marois. After falling behind by a pair of goals, the Caps turned up the heat and leveled the score before the intermission. Greg Mauldin got the first from Orlov and Jean-Claude Sawyer at 17:20, and Sean Kotary made it 4-4 from Zbynek Novak and Igor Shadulov just 34 seconds later.

After failing on a pair of power play chances in the first half of the final period, Washington went a man down when O'Sullivan took a highsticking minor at 10:52. Just 34 seconds later, the Rangers regained the lead when Seydoux scored from Henning and Rawlyk, but once again the Capitals fought back. Jakub Cutta converted on the power play from Bergenheim and Branko Radivojevic at 13:56 to make it 5-5.

Daniel Taylor struggled in goal for Washington, making 17 saves on 22 shots. Brad Topping stopped nine shots in relief to earn the tie. Michal Valent made 22 saves for New York, while Jason Churchill stopped all seven shots he faced in relief.
