Junior Capitals Fall to Junior Flyers
The playoff hopes of the Washington Junior Capitals are all but over after a 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Junior Flyers on Day 153. The loss drops the Caps to 30-34-12 and seven points behind the final playoff spot with six games remaining.
Philadelphia opened a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Stajan netted from Ruzicka and Lefebrve at 10:17. The other action of the first 20 minutes was a fight between Branko Radivojevic and Josh Olson. The result was a draw at 17:02.
The Flyers extended its lead to 2-0 early in the middle stanza. Sullivan was the scorer from Beauchemin and Picard at 2:31. Washington battled back to get within one when Sean Kotary scored on the power play from Radivojevic and Igor Shadulov at 11:50. Lance Moynch tied it up for the Capitals from Patrick O'Sullivan and Sean Bergenheim at 15:45. Washington outshot Philadelphia 12-6 in the period.
The Capitals continued to press in the final period, but two Flyers' markers spelled doom for Washington. Nolan got the first from Picard and Jessiman at 7:52, before Gauthier finished the scoring from Massen and Stajan at 13:44.
Brad Topping stopped 19 shots in the loss and fell to 14-24-6. Martin Gerber made 28 saves to earn the win and improve to 32-24-6.
The two clubs meet again on Day 154 in Philadelphia.
