Capitals Drop Game 5
The Washington Capitals dropped a tough 4-2 decision in Game 5 of its playoff series with the Florida Panthers to go down three games to two. Game 6 is tonight in Washington.
Zigmund Palffy gave the Caps a good start when he scored his fourth of the series from Mikael Renberg and Rob Blake at 5:23, but the Panthers answered with a pair of goals. Nolan got the first from Krajicek and Novoseltsev at 6:43, before Parrish made it 2-1 from Hill and Nolan at 9:14.
Florida dominated the middle stanza, outshooting Washington 12-6 and stretching its lead to two goals. Bondra was the scorer from Weiss and Johnsson at 16:56.
The Panthers continued to control the play in the first half of the third period. Weiss made the strong play pay off when he scored his third of the series from Bondra and Daze at 9:06 to make it 4-1. Washington finally woke up after Weiss' goal, but Vyborny's late marker from Cheechoo at 17:18 was all the visiting side could muster.
Manny Legace made 26 saves in the loss. Roberto Luongo stopped 24 shots to earn the win.
