Flyers Tie Flames... Again
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – For the 2nd time this season, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Calgary Flames have ended up with a tie, this time the final was 2-2.
The Flames took a 2-0 lead over the Flyers at the 14:54 mark of the 3rd period, leaving not much hope for the Flyers club. But with two goals coming from the Flyers 4th line in the final 3:17 of regulation the teams were deadlocked going into overtime. The Flames would get the only shots in the overtime session forcing Martin Gerber to stop only 2 shots for a total of 31 saves on the night.
Gerber was named the games 2nd star and earned his 5th tie of the season. Brad Leeb and Chris Gratton both had a goal and assist in the game.
Brendan Bell had a solid debut playing 22 minutes of ice time and finishing even with 1 hit and 2 shots. The Flyers are getting production from their 3rd and 4th lines as of late and hope the top lines can start to produce giving the team more of a chance. “Hopefully when our top lines get going the 3rd and 4th lines can continue to produce for us as well..” said Flyer winger Matt Stajan “We are having a tough time finding the back of the net right now but if we keep working hard the chances and goals will come..”
The Flyers finished the 3 game road skid in 3 nights 0-2-1 and will now face off against the Florida Panthers at the National Car Rental Center. The game takes place on Day 89 and this will be yet another challenge for this Flyers club. Martin Gerber is expected to get the start in nets.
