Gerber enjoying time in Philly

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The 24 year old native of Burgdorf, Switzerland is very satisfied with his professional hockey career so far.

Gerber will be making his 30th career start tonight against the Montreal Canadiens, and will look to steal one for his team. So far this season Gerber and Raycroft have been splitting most of the games, but it looks like the Flyers management will be going to Gerber down the stretch trying to build up some experience for the youngster.

The Flyers have been very impressed with the play of this youngster. He has a save percentage of .901, goals against average of 2.68 and a record of 10-15-4 with one shutout. Not much is expected from this team, but yet Gerber has been showing signs that he will be leading this team once they mature and build into a contender. As of today Martin is ranked in the top 10 in save percentage within the league.

On a somewhat surprising note, Martin is tied for the league lead in goaltender assists with Canadiens goaltender Alexander Auld for 4 assists. Much more will be expected from Gerber in the future, but as of today the Flyers are hoping for a big performance from the youngster to bring home the two points and maybe kick start a run that could put them in the playoff picture. “It is definitely not crazy to think we could make playoffs, we can make it this season with the team we have, but we are trying not to think about it too much..” said Gerber after today’s practice. “If we can make a push or put together any kind of a winning streak we could be in, we are only around 10 points out right now, we are not out of the playoff picture yet.”

Gerber will look to strengthen his numbers as the Flyers take on the Canadiens tonight in Philadelphia. A plus for the Flyers is that Canadiens star forward Sergei Samsonov will not be dressing tonight due to a cap violation by the Montreal organization.
