Capitals Top Montreal

Frantisek Lukes scored two goals, including the overtime game-winner, to lift the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Day 78. The two points moves Washington to 16-23-3.

The Caps jumped out to a 1-0 lead after just 1:44 of the first period. David Vyborny and Mark Eaton setup the goal for Lukes.

Montreal pulled even during a tightly-played second period. Jamieson did the job from Podlesak and Ternavsky at 8:15.

After a scoreless final period, Washington took advantage of a power play that carried over into the overtime to earn the win. Artem Chubarov and Vyborny assisted on the goal by Lukes at 0:16.

JS Giguere made 19 saves to earn the win and improve to 18-13-4. Brent Johnson stopped 22 shots for Montreal.

Washington hosts Anaheim on Day 79.
