Senators Youth Impressive!
The Ottawa Senators have built a strong, young Junior team once again this year. However, the change from this year to last is that the JR Sens are being led not by 26 year old veterans, but by 18,19 and 20 year old rookies who are flourishing under Schmucky's leadership.
For starters we have 19 year old, second year player, Max Gordichuk. Max was a 64 overall rated prospect last season who looked like he would have little to no chance at a future with the Senators Pro Squad. However, he has worked extremely hard on his game and his training camps have gone well sending him into the 2nd half of this season with a 72 DF rating, which is spectacular in the JR ranks, and a much improved 68 overall.
Also, we have young, superstar centerman Rostislav Olesz. The difference between Olesz and Gordichuk is that Olesz was expected to become a fairly good player. However, no one could have imagined he would be having as good of a year this year as he has so far. Through the 38 game mark, Olesz leads all Junior players with 43 points. He has 18 goals and 25 assists. Olesz has flourished in camp as well this season as he now boasts a 72 Scoring rating and a 70 overall. It won't be long before we see this guy in the pros!
Last but not least, 19 year old Victor Oreskovich has had a great year so far. With 23 points so far, this Kitchener Ranger prospect is surprising everyone. At 19 years old he boasts an impressive 72 PA rate that should put him among the elite passers in the league in the next season or two.
The Sens scouts have been impressive as 2 of the 3 above players were late 4th and 5th round choices. Ottawa is having a good season thus far and their future looks even brighter with these youngins, and others, on their way up!
