JUNIOR CANES CONTINUE TO ROLL AS STORTINI RIDES SHOTGUN

Carolina

The Junior Canes have a new, not so secret weapon. Zach Stortini, the mammoth forward with an aggressive style and not so smooth stride has provided a bit of a spark for the Canes top line of Colin Fraser and Lauri Korpikoski.

“There is more room out there for those two,” said head coach Craig Hartsburg. “Storty is just intimidating and since we inserted him into the lineup, it just seems other teams aren’t so anxious to try and rough up Colin and Lauri. Works for me.”

Stortini, who stands about 6’4 and weighs a cool 230, has been letting other teams know that he is the new sheriff.

“No one wants to touch us right now,” said Fraser. “We go out there and do our stuff and every stick that taps us or shoulder laid into us, it is done with hesitation. Hell, I’m nervous around Storty but right now, all is well.”

After 5 games, Stortini has fired in a goal and an assist and currently sits at an outstanding +5. He has not seen any power play time, nor will he. He is not a penalty killer and his job is not to be fancy. He is strictly an up and down winger, a meat and potatoes type of guy and he take his role seriously.

“I have a role and I enjoy it,” said the soft spoken Stortini. “I play a physical game and I border on that intensity line. I will mess people up if I need to, but the only reason I play this game is to win and whatever role they give me is fine. I just want to play.”

Storty will play and at the moment he will play on the top line with the Canes leading scorer. Look for more Stortini in the future games as the Canes are on a bit of a roll since adding the power forward.
