Capitals Silence Blues

Patrick Marleau played a part in all three goals to lead the Washington Capitals to a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Day 64. The result lifts Washington to 13-19-3 for the season.

Joffrey Lupul got Washington on the board at 7:37 of the first period when he scored on the power play from Marleau and Radoslav Suchy. Marleau made it 2-0 from Todd Warriner and JS Giguere at 12:58.

The Blues pulled within one early in the second period. Cole got the goal while shorthanded from Hamhuis and Handzus at 1:30. The Capitals regained its two-goal edge midway through the second period when Severin Blindenbacher netted from Marleau at 10:20. Corbeil made it 3-2 from Hemsky and Tyutin at 11:50, but that was all the scoring either team could muster.

JS Giguere made 31 saves to earn the win and improve to 15-10-4. Jose Theodore stopped 24 shots in the loss.

The Capitals are off for two days before hosting Colorado on Day 67.
