Capitals Top Lightning

Joffrey Lupul scored the winning goal and assisted on the opening tally to lead the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Day 63. The result lifted Washington to 12-19-3 for the season.

David Vyborny gave the Caps a great start when he converted from Lupul and Dan Boyle at 5:47. Tampa Bay fought back to level the score when Kapanen netted from Nylander and Hejduk at 11:45.

After a scoreless second period, Washington scored the only goal of the final period to earn the win. With Jackman in the box for charging, Lupul lit the lamp from Vyborny and Radoslav Suchy at 7:18.

JS Giguere stopped 20 shots to earn the win and improve to 14-10-4 for the season. Aren Miller made 35 saves in the loss.

The Capitals visit St. Louis on Day 64.
