Buffalo Sabres Continue to Struggle
Buffalo – A.P.
The Buffalo Sabres take their three game losing streak back home where they face off with the New Jersey Devils in hopes of ridding their losing spirits and get back on the fast track to winning.
So, how did they fare against the New Jersey Devils? Horrible of course, would you expect anything less? Let’s recap the game shall we.
The game started out slow and throughout the match was a slow pace game as it was a battle of the goalies; Nikolai Khabibulin of the New Jersey Devils stopped 20 of 21 shots as his counterpart, Rick Dipietro, stopped 28 of 30 shots and allowing the New Jersey Devils to skate away with a victory.
The scoreboard for the game had Josef Melicher scoring the only goal for the Buffalo Sabres as the New Jersey Devils had Boyd Devereaux score both of their goals, the tying and game winning ones.
The Buffalo Sabres continue to struggle in their fight for home ice in the Wales Conference. After dropping four straight games, the Buffalo Sabres still hold the second seed in the Wales Conference but their losing skid has forced division rivals like Pittsburgh Penguins and the Ottawa Senators to catch up and create a three-way struggle for the division lead.
Why is winning the division so crucial, because it allows the team who wins the Adams Division to avoid playing the New York Islanders until the Wales Conference Championship. For the Buffalo Sabres, it’s crucial they avoid the Islanders for as long as possible as the Sabres have had nothing but trouble when facing them.
The Buffalo Sabres hope to end their drought on Day 73 as they face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning on the road.
