Capitals Buried by Avalanche
The Washington Capitals fell to 13-20-3 for the season on Day 67 after dropping a 3-1 decision to the Colorado Avalanche. The loss continued Washington's frustrating run of inconsistency.
Colorado jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening period when Tanabe netted from White and Forsberg at 3:27.
The Avs extgended the lead to two goals in the second period. Forsberg was the scorer from White and Tanabe at 13:39. Washington finally got on the board just 12 seconds later when Patrick Marleau converted from Joffrey Lupul and Frantisek Lukes.
The Capitals put up a fight in the final 20 minutes, but it was Vrbata that scored for the Avalanche to put the game away. Kobesaw and Forsberg assisted on the tally.
JS Giguere made 23 saves in the loss and fell to 15-11-4. Mikka Kiprusoff stopped 24 shots to earn the win.
