STUART RETURNS TO MAKE BIG IMPACT

Carolina

The Carolina Hurricanes found themselves on the losing end of a big time comeback the last time they faced off against the Florida Panthers. Notably absent were defensive centerman Kris Draper and top line defenseman Brad Stuart.

This time, Stuart made his presence known.

Stuart came into this game with something to prove after his debut game. It only lasted a period as the big defender ended up beating up Eric Brewer and found himself with a 4 game suspension to show for it. The physicality continued on against the Panthers however as the 27 year old had 2 more scraps and found himself once again kicked out.

However, this time he also added two key assists on the Canes first two goals.

“He is an interesting player,” said head coach Joel Quenneville. “He plays it tough and he adds a skating element we had missed on the blueline. He pretty much has everything we were looking for and tonight he made himself known.”

Assisting on Tim Connolly’s first goal of the game and then Dany Heatley’s, Stuart got into to separate altercations and was assessed a game misconduct. All in all a 2 assists, 2 fight and +1 performance was what he left with.

“We won the game, that is all that matters to me. We need points badly and right now we are still outside looking in on the last playoff spot in the conference. If his intimidation tactics hurt us, I will speak on them, but as long as we are winning, you won’t hear a peep out of me.”

The Canes get back Chris Pronger after serving his 5 game suspension. In that time, the Canes were 2-3.
