Capitals Stop Sharks

David Vyborny scored the winning goal and assisted on another to lead the Washington Capitals to a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Day 70. The result moves Washington to 14-21-3 for the season.

Frantisek Lukes started things off the Capitals when he scored his ninth of the season from Vyborny and Joffrey Lupul at 6:56. San Jose tied the game several minutes later on Straka's fifth of the year from Welch and Bonk at 10:21.

After a scoreless middle stanza, the Sharks took the lead early in the final 20 minutes. Straka was the scorer again from Hossa at 4:18. Washington answered just 19 seconds later to tie the game. Mark Eaton got the goal from Peter Tenkrat and Andrew Ference. Vyborny netted the winner just less than 11 minutes later on the power play from Lupul and Lukes.

JS Giguere stopped 23 shots to earn the win and improve to 16-12-4. Cristobal Huet made 30 saves in the loss.

The Caps are back in action on Day 41 against Ottawa.
